The Chef and the Cook is a contemporary novel exploring the relationship between two people navigating love, ambition and the pressures of working in professional kitchens.

Drawing inspiration from my own experiences as a professional chef, the story features characters loosely based on people I've encountered throughout my culinary career, including chefs who have influenced and inspired me.

Creative Vision

Originally conceived as a short-film concept, The Chef and the Cook developed into a full-length narrative exploring themes of love, passion, loneliness, pressure and perfectionism.

My original visual concept incorporated long shots to establish locations and convey emotions such as yearning, isolation and regret.

 

Medium close-ups would capture moments of intimacy, allowing audiences to experience the relationships through different characters' perspectives.

Setting and Inspiration

London is central to the story's identity. During my culinary career, I aspired to work at The Shard, which became a significant source of inspiration for the project's original visual concept.

To me, The Shard represents both London's identity and the ambition associated with professional cooking.

I envisioned contrasting the intensity of a high-end restaurant with quieter, intimate moments across London, allowing the setting to reflect the characters' personal and professional conflicts.
